Naguib Mahfouz; December 11, 1911 – August 30, 2006) was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize for Literature. He is regarded as one of the first contemporary writers of Arabic literature, along with Tawfiq el-Hakim, to explore themes of existentialism.[1] He published 34 novels, over 350 short stories, dozens of movie scripts, and five plays over a 70-year career. Many of his works have been made into Egyptian and foreign films.
Muhammad Anwar el-Sadat :Egyptian [muħæmmæd ˈʔɑnwɑɾ essæˈdæːt]; 25 December 1918 – 6 October 1981) was the third President of Egypt, serving from 15 October 1970 until his assassination by fundamentalist army officers on 6 October 1981. Sadat was a senior member of the Free Officers who overthrew King Farouk in the Egyptian Revolution of 1952, and a close confidant of President Gamal Abdel Nasser, under whom he served as Vice President twice and whom he succeeded as President in 1970.
Mostafa A. El-Sayed : (born 8 May 1933) is an Egyptian chemical physicist, a leading nanoscience researcher, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a US National Medal of Science laureate. He is also known for the spectroscopy rule named after him, the El-Sayed rule
Nabawiyya Musa (December 17, 1886 - 1951) is recognized as one of the founding feminists of the 20th century in Egypt.[1] She is often partnered with Huda Sharawi and Malak Hifni Nasif as all three of these women gave lectures and put on other events to further education, health and reduce sexual exploitation among other things for women.[2] She grew up in Alexandria and was part of the middle-class. Along with being an avid educator she wrote and published articles such as “al-Ayat al –badyyina fi tarbiya al-banat" (a treatise on girls’ education) in 1902, "al-Mar’a wa-l-‘amal" (Woman and Work) in 1920 as well as editing a woman’s page for al-Balagh al-usbui (The Weekly News).
Sir Magdi Habib Yacoub ; born 16 November 1935) is an Egyptian-British cardiothoracic surgeon. He is Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Imperial College London .
